Juanfran was a product of Real Madrid’s youth academy. He had his first main squad opportunity in January 2004, playing 15 minutes in a 2–1 home win against Villarreal CF and the following seasons would play in another five La Liga matches. Juanfran was loaned out to RCD Espanyol (2005–06) and featured heavily during that time. He went on to do stints with Osasuna (2006-2011); Atlético Madrid (2011 present); Spain U17 (2003); Spain U18 (2003); Spain U19 (2004); Spain U20 (2003-05); Spain U21 (2004-06) and Spain (2012 – present).His club honors include Copa del Rey: 2005–06; UEFA Europa League: 2011–12; La Liga: 2013–14; UEFA Super Cup: 2012; Copa del Rey: 2012–13; Supercopa de España: 2014 – Runner-up 2013; UEFA Champions League – Runner-up 2013–14. His Country honors include Spain U19 (UEFA European Under-19 Championship: 2004); Spain U20 (FIFA U-20 World Cup Runner-up: 2003); Spain (UEFA European Championship: 2012).
