His album John Anderson 2 was released in 1981 and reached #25 on the US Country chart. Anderson has released a total of 22 studio albums and his albums Wild & Blue in 1982 and Eye of a Hurricane in 1984 both reached #3 on the US Country chart. Anderson’s 1992 album Seminole Wind reached #10 on the US Country chart, #11 on the Canadian Country chart, and #35 on the Billboard 200 chart. He has had #1 singles with the songs “Wild and Blue”, “Swingin”, “Black Sheep”, “Straight Tequila Night”, and “Money in the Bank”.  In 2014 Anderson was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame.
